Sofa Queens - Editing a Web Series 2020

Happy #Galentines Day!

On a day meant to celebrate the things we love in life, I thought it was only fitting to share a project that is near and dear to my heart…

This past summer, I made a pledge to up my anti and get into scripted content. I took a course a year before at LIFT for Web Series writing. I have written any number of pilot scripts - some which have never seen the light and others that are still in development.

I thought tackling the world of short-form writing was a good way for me to stay connected to one story and didn’t tax me too much with my full time job.

Here I met Kelly!

Kelly has great energy and creativity. She is not afraid to be herself and promote different versions of femininity that I resonated with.

A year after this course, I realized I kept liking her Instagram content. She was making stuff. It was all indie and I wanted to be a part of that energy.

We met for dinner in the summer and I ASKED to edit her next production.

She said, “well I am going into production for my web series - remember the one I pitched in class.”

I met the crew a few weeks later and director, Ellen Shaw. Ellen has a very calm and cool edge that really made set a fun place to be. The entire crew seemed like they were in the same phase in their career - emerging and ready to learn.

Post-Production

My Premiere Pro CC Editing Suite

Because I normally handle documentary footage as an assistant, it took me a full week to really sit and think about how I was going to log, organize and edit this web series.

I came up with my own system - part of the beauty of an indie production is that there are fewer hands doing more jobs and everyone is happy for the help when it is presented.

Having recently learned some new editing techniques from Geoff Mattheson (CCE Editor), I applied my knowledge and love of organization (everything is always colour coated) to the edit.

Marketing

Kelly has been handling all the producing aspects as well, including the marketing and promotion! She is one badass lady. We will be releasing each episode every month, with BTS short videos and cast/crew interviews to bring life to the show in between.
